When Should Your Child
Stay Home?
Protecting
your child’s health and preventing the spread of illness is of utmost
importance to us. Please keep your child at home if you notice any of
the following things:
Contagious Diseases:
Inform the school
immediately if your child develops any of the following diseases:
Chicken Pox
Flu
German Measles
Hepatitis
Impetigo
Lice (nits)
Mumps
Pinkeye
Ringworm
Strep Throat
Rheumatic Fever
Scabies
Scarlet Fever
5th Disease
ELEVATED TEMPERATURE (fever) –
Your child should be
fever-free for a full 24 hours before returning to school.
VOMITING AND/OR DIARRHEA –
Your child should be symptom free for a full 24 hours before returning to
school.
COLD OR SYMPTOMS OF UPPER
RESPIRATORY INFECTION –
Such as persistent cough, nasal discharge, sore throat and congestion.
SUSPICIOUS SKIN RASHES
OR INFECTIONS –
Measles, 5th disease, Impetigo, etc.
PINK EYE –
an inflammation of the lining of
the eye and lids in which the eyelids become red and swollen and there may
be a watery or thick yellow discharge. Antibiotic ointment or drops are
necessary from your physician. Exclusion from school is required until child
has a note from the doctor or condition is clear.
CHICKEN POX –
first symptoms appear 2-3 weeks after exposure to the disease; slight fever,
headache, loss of appetite and a rash that appears as small reddish spots
over nearly all the body. These spots become filled with fluid and after a
few days dry up, turn dark and form scabs. Exclusion from school is at least
7 days from the first eruption and until all eruptions have scabs.
Whenever your child is ill and requires a doctor’s care, please obtain a
note from the doctor stating that the child is under a doctor’s care and
when they are able to return to school.
