The fifth grade pod is
named for the biggest, coldest and cleanest of the Great Lakes. Lake
Superior is the largest freshwater lake on earth. It holds enough water to
fill all the other Great Lakes with plenty to spare. Lake Superior's deepest
point is 1,332 feet. French explorers referred to their discovery as le lac
superieur, or "Upper Lake." The Chippewa Indian translation, Kitchi-gummi,
signifies "Great Water". It seems appropriate for the fifth grade pod to be
named after the strongest and largest of the great lakes since fifth graders
are looked up to by younger students.. They are role models as visible
members of the Service Squad, Safety Patrol, and the Student Council. |
