2005: The Year in Review

It's often said that the first year of any major endeavor is the roughest, but if that's the case then prospects for the InVoice Writing Club are truly encouraging.  Club members accomplished more than anyone could have imagined for a first year organization; consider these achievements:

--the club hosted two "Rock the Mic" coffee house events that featured the poetry, music, stories, and stand-up comedy of some of CV's most gifted students

--the first "Rock the Mic" was the first to be televised on the CV channel and received great response; over 120 people attended the first event and over 150 packed in to the final event, an astounding number

--the club collected over 800 books in its book drive to support Children's Hospital; the kids and their parents now have a vast assortment of books to help them pass the time during their stay

--club members tutored students seeking extra help at the CV Writing Center twice a week; dozens of students received much needed advice and guidance from their classmates

--we saw two play productions in the Detroit area, first "Usher" at Hamtramck's Planet Ant Theater and then "The Metamorphosis" at the Abreact in Greektown (which was followed by dinner at Pizza Papalis)

--members shared numerous pieces of original work and received peer feedback throughout the year

--we developed a great bond with the Dakota's Inklusive Underground writing club and were even invited to submit to their annual magazine

THE GANG!
