	Field trip to Greenfield Village	Fall	Social Studies Curriculum - American History Students explore the village in small groups, completing a short 'written assignment' as they go to help keep them focused.
	Class builds astronauts	November	Science Curriculum - Space This activity is part of a lesson on why an astronaut's space suit is designed the way it is, and how it works. The students build a miniature astronaut that is theirs to keep. Past students have kept them for many years. Read about John Flick on the alumni page. He works at NASA, and has his astronaut hanging in his office.
Sgt. Wolf WWII Mrs. Cummins' dad	Veterans Day tribute	November	Social Studies Curriculum - American History The class creates and sends cards to specially selected Veterans. If you have friends or family that are veterans please consider including their names for this activity.
	Wax Museum at Cherokee	February	Social Studies Curriculum - American History Students research a figure in American history, and pose as a 'Disney'- style wax figure that explains their plaice in history when you press their button. This activity is repeated in the evening for family and friends. Click to see photos.

	Field trip to Detroit Science Center	December	Science Curriculum - Multiple objectives This fantastic facility provides plenty of hands-on science related experiences. Students will addend three special activities, and a planetarium show. Click to see photos.
	Class experiments with Vandegraph generator	Winter	Science Curriculum - Electricity You may have seen this amazing device demonstrated in a museum. Mrs. Cummins has her own generator, so her entire class can experience it "shockingly" close-up. Any student (that wants to) will get a chance to try it. 	Field trip to District Court	May (or possibly fall)	Social Studies Curriculum - Government This is part of our study of the three branches of government. This trip gives the students an opportunity to see the inside of a court room.
	Field trip to our new middle school	May	We spend the day being introduced to the middle school. We see what it will be like changing classrooms, and we have a chance to practice opening lockers.
	Patriotic Day	May	Social Studies Curriculum - American History As part of our study of the three branches of government, students conduct a 'simulated congressional hearing'. In past years we were fortunate to have celebrity judges volunteer to participate. Click to see photos.
	5th Grade Completion Ceremony	June Last full day of school	We say goodbye to the 5th grade class, as they leave Cherokee and move on to middle school.
