BOND INFORMATION

Great Schools for a Great Community!

District residents asked to approve February 23, 2010 Bond Proposal

We continually assess our school buildings to ensure that they are equipped to provide the state-ofthe-

art education students need to be successful in today’s global society. For more than a year

district administrators, building professionals, technology consultants, school staff, and the

Chippewa Valley Board of Education have studied projected student enrollment, the needs of the district’s

current facilities, and best practices in education. The result is a comprehensive $89 million capital improvement

program that does not raise taxes but provides our students and our community with essential

improvements and upgrades needed to continue to provide a high quality learning environment for our

children.

Investing in our schools is important to keeping our district and our community vibrant and moving forward in

a positive direction. Despite Michigan’s troubled economy Chippewa Valley Schools continues to be one of

the fastest growing school districts in the tri-county area and one that remains high on every prospective home

buyer’s list. This school year our enrollment grew by 250 new students and current demographic reports

indicate that Chippewa Valley will gain another 1,200 students by the 2013-2014 school year.

The 2010 Bond Proposal will provide our children and our community with much needed

capital improvements. Things like....

*Educational Technology - New 21st Century Classroom - Technology is an important learning tool for

today’s students. These new classroom systems will feature interactive white boards, audio enhancement, data projectors,

and document cameras providing every teacher with enhanced instructional capabilities. Similar systems are

being used in neighboring school districts including Rochester, Grosse Pointe, and Troy. Each building will also

receive handheld classroom response systems. Replacement of outdated equipment, servers and infrastructure upgrades

are needed to maintain and support current and new technology.

*Safety Improvements - Security cameras, building surveillance systems at all levels, expanded card access

system, and bus replacements will help ensure the safety of our students.

*Facility Upgrades and Energy Conservation- Our school facilities require upgrades and improvements.

Selected roof replacement, parking lots, and exterior site work improvements are needed along with equipment and

furniture replacement in some schools. New electronic building signage where needed. New energy efficient lighting,

motion sensors and auto-shut off systems to reduce energy utilization and costs.

*Student Enhancements - New playground equipment will be added or old equipment will be replaced at

elementary schools.

This bond proposal will not raise taxes.

Residents will continue to pay the same 7.65 debt mills they have been paying since 1979.

More information will be available on the district’s website and newsletters. Watch for more details.

If you have any questions regarding this bond proposal please contact the Office of School and Community

Relations at 586-723-2240. Thank you!
