Google image search and other image searches are blocked. They cannot be
unblocked without also unblocking inappropriate images. This is because image
search results pages show thumbnails of the images they find even if the source
page is blocked. Here are some tips for finding images.
- Use Google or Yahoo web search like this: search for "beluga
whale photo". Click on some of the results pages. Your search results
page will have many pages containing the images you want.
- Go to
http://www.pics4learning.com/. There you can browse by topic or search
by keyword for just the photo you need. While you are there, add
Pics4Learning to your favorites, because you'll want to use it again.
- Use
http://www.worldbookonline.com/.
- In Microsoft Office 2007, click the Insert tab, then Clip Art. In the
Clip Art pane, select photo under "Results should be:".
- The Microsoft Office Online site has more than 150,000 free images and
sounds. See
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/clipart/default.aspx.
- DE Streaming
(formerly United Streaming) has about 21,000 (photo) images and about 1200
clip art pieces.
- Read Gar Reynolds blog posts titled
(You know, of course, that images on web pages are all copyrighted and your
use of them may or may not be legal. As long as you keep your use of such
materials within your classroom, you shouldn't worry, however.)
